Jessica Smit

Jessica Smit has been a classroom teacher with Townsville Catholic Education for the past eight years. Most recently she worked with the Indigenous Education Services Team helping to further develop the Pedagogy of Difference project, transforming recommended strategies into high-impact support materials for teachers of First Nations students.

In her teaching capacity with St Michael’s Palm Island, Jessica has worked in an educational partnership with the Palm Island community and is excited about further supporting and developing local community partnerships with ATSIMS. She is a founding staff member of St Benedict’s Catholic College holding various roles including School Board Member, Classroom Profiler, Beginning-Teacher Mentor, and Indigenous Committee Secretary.

She successfully graduated from the Stronger Smarter Institute Leadership Program and is currently studying a Master of Educational Leadership specialising in Indigenous Education. Jessica is passionate about facilitating engaging learning experiences and opportunities within the local community that support Indigenous knowledge.
