JCU NQ Social Worker Placement in General Practice Expansion

People: Principle Investigator is Dr Ines Zuchowski, supported by  Dr Grace Jefferson, Ms Rebecca Lee, Ms Simoane McLennan, Dr Albert Kuruvilla and Ms Mengting Lin

Aim: To research the benefits and challenges of social work practice in General Practice [GP] clinics to develop evidence-based pathways and integrated care options. It builds on a pilot study showing the benefits of social work student placements in GP clinics, but highlights the need for internal social work supervision. Five North Queensland clinics will be supported to employ social workers and support social work students in their practice. The research will evaluate the project, document and examine the social work contributions and outcomes in GP clinics, and investigate pathways for funding social work in GP clinics.
