Scholarship and student opportunities
CSIRO has a range of scholarships and student opportunities, postgraduate programs and scholarships, undergraduate studentships, as well as work experience availabilities for years 10 and 11 students: Student opportunities - CSIRO
For undergraduate students there is a range of studentships including the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) that facilitates undergraduate student job placements in biomedical research, a studentship during the summer holidays and an Undergraduate Traineeship for course credit placements.
For post-graduate students there is also a range of programs and scholarships, including the opportunity to apply for scholarships, including with the Next Generation AI and Emerging Technologies Graduates Program, AI for Missions PhD Program, Data61 PhD Scholarships, Alumni Scholarship in Physics - CSIRO, and the Next Generation Graduates Scholarship Program. This Next Gen Program welcomes applications for stipends from PhD, Masters of Phil, Masters (RTP Qual) and Honours & Coursework Masters.
CSIRO Industry PhD (iPhD) Program where students who are successful can undertake a co-designed research project to develop the ability to translate research into commercial outcomes. You'll get real-world experience, develop transferable professional skills, and be well-positioned to work at the cutting edge of industry focussed research while accessing specialised expertise, equipment, and training.
As an iPhD student, you'll receive:
- admission to a university PhD program
- a four-year scholarship package of $45,000 per annum
- a four-year Project Expense and Development package of up to $13,000 per annum
- a three-month Industry Engagement Component
- professional development training to develop your applied research skills
- supervision by CSIRO, an industry partner, and the host university.

Indigenous student and career opportunities
The JCU-CSIRO Building Indigenous Research Capacity (BIRC) initiative is facilitating undergraduate placements for JCU Indigenous students in CSIRO, JCU and other research institutes. CSIRO also an Indigenous Graduate Program and range of scholarship, career development and employment opportunities available to Indigenous students, including the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students to undertake postgraduate research degrees at CSIRO.
