JCU Careers and Employment supports students to develop their career planning, decision making and job application skills through these main services:

Drop-In Service – feedback on resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profile

During semester, meet with a Career Peer Leader to receive feedback on your resume, cover letter or LinkedIn profile.

Career Peer Leaders are students who have received training to assist you to make the most of your job search applications and LinkedIn profile.

Brief, 15-20 minute drop-in sessions are available on the Cairns and Townsville campuses:

To access this service you need to write a draft version of your application using our Job Search Information Sheets.

Please note that during the vacation periods (June/July and Nov/Dec/Jan) the Careers Drop-In Service is not available. Please contact JCU Careers and Employment or call in to our office to book an appointment.

External students we welcome to email their documents to careers@jcu.edu.au for feedback.

The Student Centre is the best first point of contact for enquiries in relation to choosing electives, gaining credit for previous study, prerequisite requirements, dropping or adding subjects or changing programs.

Help with job search and job applications

JCU Careers and Employment provides bookable appointments for job search and job application assistance, including:

  • Selection criteria feedback
  • Interview preparation
  • Job search strategies

This service is available to JCU students and graduates for up to 12 months after the completion of their studies.

University Specialist Employment Partnerships (USEP)

USEP is a free, on-campus employment service that supports graduating or graduated students with a disability (including mental health conditions) who are seeking a final year placement or graduate employment.

The service is available to JCU students in their final year or within one year of graduation who have identified as having a disability and/or who access support from the University due to their disability.
