Caryn West

Deputy Director (Professor, College of Healthcare Sciences, Dean of Research, JCU Singapore)

Prof Caryn West is the newly appointed Dean of Research for JCU Singapore and is charged with the establishment of the second pillar of research within the Tropical Futures Institute which focus on the healthy aging and associated non-communicable diseases in Singapore.  As a senior staff member in Nursing and Midwifery, Prof West is the Deputy Head of Discipline and holds a number of administrative roles.

Prof West has built a diverse research portfolio within nursing and public health through her professional roles and awards, including an early career fellowship with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Directorship of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre (WHOCC) for Nursing, Midwifery Education and Research Capacity Building. Prof West’s areas of research interest include disaster management, nursing education, and alcohol-related injuries in Australian Indigenous communities drawn together through the theme of resilience.

Prof West maintains a strong international reputation and works extensively with Asia Pacific and Western Pacific countries. Caryn is the current executive committee member for the Western Pacific Region of the Global Network of World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery, and a committee member and advisor for the Asia Pacific Emergency Disaster Nurses Network (APEDNN).
