General information

To undertake an internship in CP3101 requires an application/approval process. Students are unable to self-enrol

Internships are available to students as either solo OR as a team of 3-4 students. This depends entirely upon the internship host's requirements

Process for applying and enrolment

Internship opportunities will be made available for students to view in the first week of September. The application submission period will be open from 3-31st October. To view and apply for internship opportunities, sign into InPlace (link provided below). InPlace is where students easily access details about their WIL internship activity. Refer to InPlace Student Guide in applying for a JCU sourced internship

Self-sourcing an internship allows students to target a workplace that interests them the most. Some ideas that may assist in sourcing an internship:

• Only approach workplaces who are not registered internship partners (email placements@jcu.edu.au to confirm)
• Use your existing contacts and make new contacts through student associations, professional networks and JCU career events
• Research workplaces which fit your area of interest and expertise
• Consider what skills or qualities you could offer an employer
• Be professional and confident – let the workplace know you are interested in undertaking degree and industry-related work for academic credit

Source your preferred workplace. You should be prepared when approaching potential workplaces. It is recommended you provide a Cover Letter and CV highlighting your strengths and areas of interest, and the skills you would like to further develop whilst on an internship

Print the Supervisor Guide and give to your employer

Once the supervisor has confirmed they are willing to take you on as an intern, you will need to discuss with them and develop an appropriate position description outlining duties to be undertaken

CP3102 Multidisciplinary Project is offered in Mixed attendance mode in Trimester 2 only

This subject enables final year students to work together in groups to investigate and develop a solution for a project sourced from industry. Identification of suitable student projects occurs through collaboration between the College of Business, Law and Governance, and industry partner organisations. Students work in cross disciplinary groups (business, law and IT) and must attend the 3 hour timetabled workshop each week. Students conduct project work in addition to this contact time and receive support and project direction from academics and industry partner for the project's duration

CP3103 Independent Project is the subject matched to this option and is offered in Study Periods 1 and 2

You can choose this option if you are currently employed and wish to complete a degree-relevant project in your workplace

Subject Description

This subject is designed primarily for students already employed in a workplace to develop an independent project for the workplace/industry. Students will be required to prepare a project proposal (which would require subject coordinator/lecturer approval) and to complete a project relevant to their degree and workplace

Liaise with your employer to develop a workplace-relevant project. The project you will embark on is to be separate from your current role in the workplace. The proposal is required to demonstrate how the project assists in developing/improving workplace skills; address an industry issue and contribute to industry

Login to InPlace (link provided below). Refer to InPlace Student Guide. Transpose details from the WIL Prep Form into InPlace
