Dr Peter Crossman

2010 College Recipient, College of Business, Law and Governance

Dr Peter Crossman was until March 2010, Queensland’s Assistant Under Treasurer and Government Statistician when he moved to the United Arab Emirates for two years as Assistant Director-General for Technical Affairs in the new official statistical agency, Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi.

Dr Crossman holds both a Bachelor of Economics with Honours and a PhD from James Cook University having begun his studies at University College Townsville and completed them under the JCU banner.

On 20th April 1970, he played a prominent – albeit unscripted – role in the formal ceremonies that created James Cook University.  Dressed in 18th Century livery of satin jacket, knee breeches, buckled shoes and powdered wig, the then 3rd year economics student presented the Queen with a mounted stainless steel sculpture of the Saint.  “From the students, Ma’am,” he said with a bow.

It obviously caused no offence for during his career with Queensland Treasury there was a year secondment to Her Majesty’s Treasury in 1998.

Before joining the Queensland Government, Dr Crossman was an Associate Professor in Economics at JCU.  He is a life member of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge.

Dr Crossman passed away in Brisbane in July 2018.
