2011 Early Career Recipient. College of Business, Law and Governance

Ms Angela Fortt is a Principal/Director at Mackey Wales Law where she specialises in dispute resolution and litigation.

After graduating from James Cook University (JCU) with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 2005, Ms Fortt became Associate to Justice Cullinane and was subsequently admitted as a solicitor of both the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

Ms Fortt has previously served as Secretary and then President of the Management Committee of the Townsville Community Law. Similarly, she was Secretary and then President of the Townsville District Law Association (TDLA). She has also been a Committee Member of the North Queensland Law Association and is a Life Member of Townsville Community Law.

During her time with the TDLA, Ms Fortt worked diligently to foster closer ties with both the JCU Law Students’ Society and the JCU Law School in general, in particular arranging for representatives of the JCU Law Society and the TDLA Executive to attend each other’s meetings to facilitate co-operation in matters of common interest.

This led to the conjoint running of a Law Ball in late 2010 and an increased involvement by the profession in Law School activities and an increased Law School presence in activities sponsored by the legal profession.

Ms Fortt maintains an active involvement with the community, contributing to pro bono legal services, supporting charity events, mentoring law students and law graduates and serving on local committees and boards.
