2011 Early Career Recipient, College of Arts, Society and Education
Ms Natalie Davis is a Head of Faculty at Whitsunday Anglican School, Mackay.
She graduated from James Cook University with a joint degree of Bachelor of Education-Bachelor of Arts in 2004, and joined The Cathedral School as a senior English teacher, teaching classes from Years 8 through to 12.
In 2007, she was promoted to the position of Dean with pastoral care responsibilities. In 2010, Natalie was promoted to Dean of Senior School, while still maintaining her love of teaching Senior English.
For many years, Natalie has displayed a keen thirst for developing curriculum and pedagogy renewal. Between 2005 and 2007, she was a key participant in a major reform of middle schooling, focusing on developing curriculum and pedagogy for engagement. This reform resulted in significant changes to The Cathedral School’s approach to middle schooling.
In addition, Natalie has also written the School’s English Extension work program and has been a member of the QSA regional panel for this subject. As well, Natalie has presented at local and state teachers’ conferences, which resulted in her work being published in The English Teachers Association of Queensland Words’ Worth publication.
In 2014, Natalie worked as the Head of ESL, Learning Support and Indigenous Learning, enjoying the academic challenge of literacy and language teaching in these specialist areas. This has been a long term passion for Natalie and this drive for language development as a focus in education is clearly evidenced in her recent completion of her Honours thesis at James Cook University. This research was also published in the Term 1 edition of the ACEL 2017 magazine. Natalie is also a member of the QSA State panel- English for ESL Learners. In 2015 Natalie assumed the position of Head of Faculty- Learning Enrichment at Whitsunday Anglican School Mackay.
Presently, Natalie is a PhD candidate through Southern Cross University.
