2013 Early Career Recipient. College of Medicine and Dentistry
Brooke Myers is a Pharmacist Clinical Educator and Senior Clinical Pharmacist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
School captain at Kirwan State High School, Ms Myers continued her leadership roles during her university studies serving as president of JCU’s Pharmacy Student Association and National Councillor for the International Pharmacy Students Federation.
In her final year, she was president of the National Australian Pharmacy Students Association and currently she is Chair of the Queensland Early Career Pharmacist working group of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.
An Accredited Pharmacist with the Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacists, Ms Myers enjoys practising in a variety of areas within the profession: in hospital, leadership, consultancy, education, research and community. Her career started as an Intern Pharmacist at the Townsville Hospital.
She is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences and earlier this year was the Guest Speaker at the University of Tasmania’s White Coat Ceremony for First Year Pharmacy Students.
In the past four years, Ms Myers has volunteered in underprivileged student communities and worked as a guest lecturer at both the University of Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, and the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka.
This year she joined a team of Health Care Professionals through the ‘Help A Friend Foundation’, which provides medical care through bi-annual clinics in the Solomon Islands. She is also involved in community volunteering and fund raising including more than $10 000 for cancer research.
In 2012, Brooke was awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s Young Pharmacist of the Year award.
Ms Myers graduated from James Cook University in 2007 as a Bachelor of Pharmacy and has since completed a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy at UQ where she is currently completing an additional post graduate qualification - a Masters of Philosophy.
