Erwin Van Wyk is a System Operations Engineer with Ergon Energy after receiving a scholarship from the company in his final year at James Cook University and joining them as a Graduate Engineer upon the completion of his studies.

After completing the Graduate Program, Mr Van Wyk was appointed to his current position in 2009 and plays an instrumental role in the safe and effective distribution of electricity supply to the public.

Following Cyclone Yasi in 2011, he was involved in the operational response and first-in specialist advice and his efforts were personally recognised by the Mayor of Townsville at the time, Les Tyrell.

In 2010, he became a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with the Institution of Engineers Australia as well as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) with the Board of Professional Engineers.  He is now studying for a Graduate Certificate in Management (Technology Management).

Mr Van Wyk has been a regular at JCU Careers Fairs for Ergon Energy and has presented at the Engineering Undergraduate Society Industry Night.

He is involved with recruitment and development at the company and has been a panel member for various interviews and a mentor for paraprofessionals, operational staff, undergraduate engineers and graduate engineers.

An active member of the Townsville Regional Group of Engineers Australia since 2012, he was selected as Secretary this year and as such is a key stakeholder in delivering and promoting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for engineers in the Townsville Region.

Mr Van Wyk graduated in 2006 as a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic).
