Chanika Alahakoon

Dr Chanika Alahakoon first worked with QRCPVD in 2018 during a placement and later completed her PhD with the Centre between 2019 and 2023, focusing on diabetes-related foot disease and peripheral artery disease. As a trained medical doctor from Sri Lanka with an MBBS and MPhil, she brings valuable clinical expertise to her work, including running clinical trials that involve face-to-face patient assessments. Chanika is currently a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at the College of Medicine and Dentistry, where she teaches MBBS1 and MBBS2 and serves as an examiner for MBBS1–4. Her role combines teaching and research, with ongoing clinical research conducted at Cairns Hospital in collaboration with QRCPVD. She also holds certifications in CPR, First Aid, Good Clinical Practice, Human Ethics, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural training, and is a registered Primary Advisor at JCU supervising a PhD student.
