Australian Electoral Commission Sheds Light on Federal Elections at JCU Presentation in Cairns.

The Nguma-bada Campus at Smithfield had the privilege of hosting Ms. Stephanie Attard, the State Manager and Australian Electoral Officer for Queensland, on Wednesday, 23rd August. Ms. Attard delivered an insightful presentation that delved into the crucial role played by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) in orchestrating referendums and federal elections.

During the presentation, Ms. Attard not only outlined the significant responsibilities of the AEC but also provided students with valuable insights into the diverse array of career opportunities within the commission. Her talk highlighted the dynamic roles available during federal events, offering students a glimpse into the multifaceted world of electoral administration.

The event commenced with an introductory talk by Professor Gary Meyers, setting the stage for Ms. Attard's presentation. Natalie Taylor, a JCU student, added a meaningful touch by delivering the Acknowledgment to Country, acknowledging and honouring the traditional custodians of the land.

The engagement with Ms. Attard and the AEC not only broadened the students' understanding of the electoral process but also opened doors to potential career paths within this vital aspect of Australian democracy. The Nguma-bada Campus extends its gratitude to Ms. Attard, Professor Gary Meyers, and Natalie Taylor for contributing to this informative and enlightening session.
