JCU Law Students Society have had an engaging semester hosting a variety of social and professional events.
The JCU Law Students Society (JCULSS) has been on a whirlwind adventure this semester, stirring up a delightful concoction of social and professional events that have left participants both enlightened and entertained. From networking nights to wellness escapades, here's a sneak peek into the semester.
JCULSS Profession Insight Night
On the 31st of March, the JCULSS, in collaboration with the JCU Business Student Association, kicked off the semester in style with their Profession Insight Night. This electrifying event marked the society's maiden networking escapade for the year, and what a night it was! Attendees had the privilege of hearing from four extraordinary professionals, all proud JCU Townsville alumni.
Karl Geiger, the Director and Business Manager of MOVE Marketing, shared his insights, while Karyna Hansen, a Law Interpretation Officer at the Australian Taxation Office, provided a unique perspective. Shannon Willcox, a Real Estate Agent at Northern Realty, and Sheridan Spencer, a Solicitor at Townsville Community Law, added their invaluable experiences to the mix.
The JCULSS offer their heartfelt thanks extend not only to the speakers but also to JAM, who graciously hosted them, and tantalised taste buds with divine canapés. Moreover, a special thank you to major sponsor, the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, whose support made this night possible. The Profession Insight Night set the stage for what promises to be an exciting journey of collaboration and networking in the future.

JCULSS LinkedIn Event with Jacqui Owen
On the 3rd of April, the JCULSS hosted 'Get the Lowdown on LinkedIn with Jacqui Owen from College of Law.' The event, held at JCU but also live-streamed via Zoom, was an opportunity to explore the nuances of LinkedIn. Jacqui Owen from College of Law conducted a captivating webinar, revealing the dos and don'ts, tips, and tricks of the platform. It was an eye-opener for those looking to shine in the digital professional sphere.

JCULSS Cocktail Night: A Night of Glamour and Networking
On the 22nd of April, the JCU Law Students Society pulled out all the stops with their annual cocktail night at Buzuka. This year, they were thrilled to partner with Organic Legal, the major sponsors of the event. The evening played host to a blend of students and legal professionals, including the esteemed Judge Lynham, Nick Dametto (Member for Hinchinbrook), and Jamie Fellows (Head of the JCU Law School).
With mingling, delectable food, and even a raffle, the event was a resounding success. The JCULSS is committed to preserving this tradition for years to come, promising more nights of glamour and connection in the future.

JCULSS Wellness Day Paint and Chat
To help students conquer the exam-time blues and equip them with stress management strategies, the JCULSS organised its first-ever Wellness Day Paint and Chat on May 26th. This free event provided all materials, tea, coffee, drinks, and snacks, making it a delightful opportunity to relax and de-stress. Headspace also contributed to the event, ensuring that attendees had access to the best resources for maintaining good mental health.
Mark Fenlon from the QLS also contributed in, supplying packets of Mini M&Ms to sweeten the day. The event was so enjoyable that it's set to make an appearance in the QLS Proctor, underscoring the importance of mental health among law students.

JCULSS May PLT Events
May was no less bustling for the JCULSS, with several PLT events catering to students. They left no stone unturned in creating a holistic and enriching experience for their members.
As the semester concludes, the JCULSS extends its heartfelt thanks to its dedicated executive and members for their unwavering commitment and hard work. They've truly made this semester one for the books, and we can't wait to see what they have in store for the next!
