The Rapid Assessment Unit, together with BRET-TECH, were one of the finalist in the Cairns Tropical Innovation Awards 2011 and winner of the WHK & Fisher Adams Kelly - Emerging Innovation category. The award-winning project 'Detection Perfection tool' utilises Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy in an innovative process to non-invasively assess the quality of avocados for maturity (dry matter), shelf life (rot susceptibility) and bruising.
