Please note the Research Application Form has changed, you now need to have all co-investigators sign the form.

From 1 January all Applications must be submitted using GECO. All of the previously available applications are available to choose from in GEO, including:

  • Research Applications
  • Teaching Applications
  • Breeding Applications
  • Holding/Display Applications
  • Observational Activity Applications

GECO Draft Templates

You can use the below forms to draft your application so you can cut and paste into the online GECO form

(do not submit these forms for review, please transfer to GECO if used as a drafting tool)

The previous Animal Use Spreadsheet has been integrated into the GECO application forms, you no longer need to use the spreadsheets in your applications.

Please use GECO to submit all Amendments from after the December meeting. For instructions on how to submit an amendment with GECO:

AEC Reporting

Progress and Final Reports

  • Progress reports are due to be submitted annually on the anniversary of your applications approval
  • Final Reports are due to be submitted when your project's approval is due to expire, or once you have finished any animal work

For instructions on how to submit a progress or final report in GECO:

Animal Use Reports

  • Animal use reports are due annually in January to cover the previous year's animal use
  • Final animal use reports are due to be submitted with your final report to cover the reporting period from 1 January the current year

Unexpected Adverse Event Reports

An Unexpected Adverse Event (UAE) is "an event that may have a negative impact on the wellbeing of animals and
was not foreshadowed in the approved project or activity"

When a UAE occurs you are required to notify the Ethics Office within 48 hours of the event, then follow up with a written UAE Report once any investigations into the cause are complete using the below UAE Report Form:

SOPs are now submitted by completing the GECO online SOP form

AEC Policy and Procedure Documents

  • Opportunistic Sampling, Vouchering and Amendments to Projects in the Field Policy - Has been retracted and under review. This policy is no longer accepted by the AEC.
