PhD Scholarship Opportunity: Supporting Perinatal Mental Health via Digital Technology

We are seeking a motivated and qualified candidate for a fully-funded PhD scholarship as part of an NHMRC Investigator Grant project entitled: "Supporting mothers' and fathers' perinatal mental health via digital technology and couple engagement." This project aims to develop and evaluate an app-based intervention to support parents experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress during the perinatal period, providing a low-cost and scalable mental health solution.

Project Overview: The project seeks to address significant gaps in perinatal mental health by creating a digital intervention that engages both mothers and fathers. Through a combination of evidence-based strategies and digital technology, this research aims to enhance parental mental health support in a way that is both accessible and adaptable to individual and couple needs.

Candidate Expectations: The selected PhD candidate will:

- Conduct mixed-methods research, including quantitative and qualitative approaches, relevant to digital mental health interventions.

- Engage in participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention.

- Work closely with supervisors to refine their research focus within the broader project goals.

Project Support and Supervision: This PhD project will be based at James Cook University under the supervision of Dr Sam Teague and Professor James Dimmock. The candidate will receive comprehensive support to undertake research activities, including presenting at national and international conferences and collaborating with multidisciplinary experts in digital health and psychology.
