CITBA members Associate Professor Pengji Wang and Associate Professor Huiping Zhang, together with the Professor Dirk Klimkeit, co-authored a textbook “International Management in Service Firms: Environments, Strategies and Operations”. The book was published by Springer in May 2024.
On 13 June, the two institutions, James Cook University (Singapore Campus) and Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Stuttgart held a virtual launch event to celebrate the publication of this textbook. Prof. Stephen Boyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor, JCUS stated, “I was very pleased to see in your outline there is a chapter around virtual teams and international project management. They are certainly two areas that are, particularly post-Covid, critical areas for many international companies working in virtual teams around the world”.

Prof. Stefan Fünfgeld, Acting Dean, Business School, DHBW Stuttgart, added, „I think we all know how much work is involved in such a project like this. It is very enriching for the students because there's a connection between theory and practice”.

About “International Management in Service Firms: Environments, Strategies and Operations”

Most service firms today have international business and many of the world’s largest companies are service firms. At the same time, the characteristics of services make the international management of service firms special in many ways. However, until now there has been no textbook in English that focuses on the international management of service firms. This textbook files this gap by having 18 chapters with 700+ pages and 47 cases with an exclusive focus on service companies’ international strategy, operation and management.

We are pleased to announce the growing success of our Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) training, which has been gaining significant traction, particularly within the public sector. This specialised training program, designed to equip professionals with the essential skills needed to conduct comprehensive cost-benefit evaluations, has become increasingly sought after by government and public institutions.

In late September and again in mid-October, we delivered two separate, highly successful CBA training sessions tailored specifically for public sector professionals. These workshops were designed to address the unique challenges faced by public institutions in making informed, data-driven decisions that balance social, economic, and environmental factors.

The training, led by our expert facilitators, provided participants with hands-on experience in applying CBA methodologies to real-world public sector projects. The enthusiastic response and strong participation highlight the value of this training in helping organisations improve policy decision-making and project planning.

With public sector interest continuing to grow, we look forward to offering further sessions and expanding our reach in this critical area of public administration. Stay tuned for upcoming training opportunities and further developments in this impactful initiative.

CITBA News- December 2024

2024 AustCham-JCUS Business Sentiment Report was launched on 28 Nov 2024 at King & Wood Mallesons office. About 40 participants, including AustCham members and JCUS representatives attended the launch event.

This second edition of the annual report is produced in collaboration by the Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA) at James Cook University (Singapore Campus) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce Singapore (AustCham Singapore).

The report adopts a mixed-method approach, combining surveys and in-depth interviews, to assess business sentiment and understand the adoption of digital strategies and green initiatives among AustCham members in Singapore.

The report was a joint effort by CITBA, AustCham Singapore and Aroca Consulting Group. CITBA researchers designed the survey and interview questions, collected and analysed the data and produced the report. AustCham recruited the participants for research and organized the launch event. Aroca worked on the design and reached out to media.

The 2024 AustCham-JCUS Business Sentiment Report reinforces our shared commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering impactful business insights for Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
