JCU Arrival Service: Supporting Your Smooth Transition

At James Cook University (JCU), we warmly welcome new international students arriving in Cairns and Townsville. Our free arrival service is designed to make your journey to JCU as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

About the Arrival Service

Our complimentary service is available at the beginning of each semester or trimester. Upon arrival at the Cairns or Townsville airport, train station, or bus terminal, you’ll be collected and transported to your pre-arranged accommodation—whether it’s on-campus housing or a private residence.

To ensure a seamless start, we also provide you with essential information to help you settle into your new city and prepare for your academic journey at JCU.

Plan Your Arrival:

We recommend arriving the week before Orientation Week to:

• Settle into your new home.
• Complete the arrival process at the JCU Student Centre.
• Prepare for Orientation.

Booking Your Arrival Service:

• Submit your booking at least three business days (Monday to Friday) before your arrival.
• Ensure you’ve arranged temporary or permanent accommodation before booking.

Note for Townsville Campus Students:

If you arrive at Cairns International Airport, you’ll need to arrange your own transport to Townsville. Transport options include:

• Flights: Qantas or Virgin Australia.
• Bus Services: Greyhound Australia.
• Train Services: Queensland Rail.

For Students in JCU Halls of Residence:

Notify your hall of residence about your expected arrival time once your travel arrangements are confirmed.

On Arrival at JCU

Once you reach the Cairns or Townsville campus, check in at the JCU Student Centre:

• Cairns: Building A1.
• Townsville: Building 134.

Alternative Transport Options

If you prefer local transport services, both Cairns and Townsville offer reliable options:

• Taxis:
  • Townsville Taxis: Townsville airport to JCU: approximately AUD $40.
  • Cairns Taxis: Cairns airport to the city centre: approximately AUD $30.
• Other Services:
  • Cairns Airport Shuttles:  Cairns Airport Connections, Excellence Coaches
  • Ride-sharing: Uber Australia
