Welcome to JCU! Here’s what you need to know about International Student Orientation:
Why is International Orientation Important?
International Orientation is compulsory for all students studying on an International Student Visa. It’s your gateway to important information, key contacts, and campus knowledge to ensure a smooth start to your studies. You’ll also have the chance to connect with fellow students and JCU staff through fun social activities.
When and Where?
Details about timings and locations will be sent to you via your JCU email as part of your pre-departure communications. Make sure to check your email regularly.
What to Expect:
Orientation covers several essential events and activities to help you settle in:
Before Orientation Week:
Arrival and Preparation
- Arrive at least one week before classes begin to allow time for settling in
- Immediately visit the Student Centre to Officially Register your Arrival with your Passport or Photo ID - this is a Student Visa requirement.
During Orientation Week:
- College Orientation (Course-Specific) – Monday/Tuesday
- Introduction to your specific course.
- JCU Official Jumpstart – Monday
- University-wide orientation activities.
- International Student Orientation – Thursday
- Tailored specifically to international students.
What If You Can’t Arrive Early?
If your visa is delayed or you’ve already booked travel outside these recommended times, don’t worry!
What Should You Bring?
To assist with a smooth check-in and setup process, please bring the following:
- Photo ID (student ID card, passport, or driver’s license).
- Your JCU username and password (if you have already received them).
Need More Help?
- Check the JCU Orientation Guides or your Personalised Orientation Plan for further information on additional events.
- For questions about pre-departure preparations, planning your arrival, or International Orientation, contact the JCU Student Centre.
We’re excited to welcome you to JCU and wish you a fantastic start to your university journey!
