This theme is led by Dr Reniel Cabral.
Associate Professor Reniel Cabral
Executive Committee
Theme Leader: Fisheries Science and Management
Dr. Cabral combines ecological and economic theories and methods, big data analytics, and computation to find solutions to fisheries and conservation problems. He is particularly interested in problems where science and scientific innovations can help overcome bottlenecks to effectively address fisheries and conservation challenges.
Dr Andrew Chin
Theme: Fisheries Science and Management
+61 7 4781 4486
Andrew works on assessments of Australia shark and rays species and their management. He also has research interests in integrating traditional knowledge and management systems into mainstream fisheries management.
Dr Michael Grant
Theme: Fisheries Science and Management
Dr Grant's primary research focus is the biology and conservation of elasmobranchs in non-marine environments. He is interested in the biology of river sharks and other ray species found in northern Australia and Papua New Guinea region.
Associate Professor Neil Hutchinson
Theme: Fisheries Science and Management
Neil's research focuses on how mobile organisms utilise often heavily impacted coastal habitats, such as mangroves and seagrass beds. He is currently examining the ecology of mesopredators, including bamboo sharks, in these systems.
Hillary Smith
Theme: Fisheries Science and Management
Hillary Smith is a Senior Research Officer whose research focuses on coral biology, reef ecology, and adaptation to climate change, particularly in the lens of coral reef restoration. She is interested in developing low-cost and low-tech restoration approaches that can achieve scale through citizen science and community action. She is particularly passionate about developing methods that can translate to remote and developing island nations with…
Associate Professor Naomi Gardiner
Theme: Fisheries Science and Management
