Are you a new teaching staff member? The Centre of Education and Enhancement has developed three self-directed Short Learning Programmes to complete as part of your employment probation requirements and to help support and orientate you to JCU as an educator.
The new core offerings are:
- Academic Integrity
- Being an Educator
- The JCU Student Experience
These Short Learning Programs focus on giving you an understanding of:
- what is expected of you as an educator at JCU,
- an overview of what the student experience looks like at JCU, how you contribute, and what supports are available,
- the importance of Academic Integrity, JCU's educative approach, and strategies for dealing with potential academic misconduct.
To register
Please email the Centre for Education and Enhancement Admin team and request access to the modules. Once received you will be given access to complete the Short Learning Programs via LearnJCU.
All staff will automatically be granted access to the Academic Integrity modules in LearnJCU.
Existing staff members interested in these programs can register via the Staff Learning Hub.
Academic Integrity – Staff Development
Length: approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
Completion Requirements:
To successfully complete this Short Learning Programme, you will need to:
- Attain 100% on a summative 15-question quiz
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this Short Learning Programme you will be able to:
- Identify academic integrity and explain why it is important
- Define plagiarism and cheating
- Identify your responsibilities in relation to Academic Integrity
- Identify the strategies JCU has in place to support the education of staff and students
- Identify strategies that can help you if you are suspicious academic misconduct has occurred
Being an Educator
Length: approximately 2 hours.
Completion Requirements:
To successfully complete this Short Learning Programme, you will need to:
- Attain 75% or higher on a summative 10-question quiz
- Complete the Short Learning Programme Evaluation Form
Learning outcomes:
On completion of this Short Learning Programme you will be able to:
- Identify the capabilities that JCU expect in their Educators
- List four critically reflective teaching principles
- Identify why Scholarly Activity and Scholarship are important
The JCU Student Experience
Length: approximately 30 minutes.
Completion Requirements:
To successfully complete this Short Learning Programme, you will need to:
- Attain 75% or higher on a summative 10-question quiz
- Complete the Short Learning Programme Evaluation Form
Learning outcomes:
On completion of this Short Learning Programme, you should be able to:
- Identify the student support services at JCU.
- Describe your responsibilities in relation to student support.
- Describe how you can support students through feedback.
