Business Seminar Series - Career development
Monday 11th November, 12.30pm - 1.30pm Growing up in a small rural community presents unique challenges for those with ambitious career goals. Competing against candidates from larger cities, often boasting prestigious educations and impressive internships, can feel daunting. However, rural upbringings also instil valuable skills such as community engagement, resourcefulness, and resilience, all of which contribute to a well-rounded professional skill set.
Join Wayde Chiesa as he shares his journey from small-town beginnings to becoming CEO of RDA. He will discuss his career path and the steps that led him to his current role, emphasising the importance of setting small, incremental goals that pave the way for larger achievements. Addressing the growth potential in the North Queensland region, Wayde will explain how students can seize these opportunities, highlighting the value of building strong relationships and networking for career development. Wayde Chiesa is passionate about the North West Queensland region. He has over twenty years’ experience in business and finance roles. He joined Regional Development Australia – Townsville and North West Queensland as CEO in August 2021. The role is a leadership role that operates across 14 local government areas in North and North West Queensland to drive regional and economic development outcomes. The role utilises the relationships across all levels of government, business and industry to strengthen regional communities.
Wayde is a born and bred North Queenslander and has lived and worked in the region all his life. He is a Chartered Accountant and his previous positions include Director – Regional Development and Investment at Townsville Enterprise and senior roles at BHP, Incitec Pivot, Townsville City Council and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
