Law Seminar Series - Generative AI & the Law
Thursday 16 October, 11.00am - 12.00pm Discover how generative AI is transforming the landscape of higher legal education in this compelling session led by Dr Karnika Bansal from James Cook University. Drawing from her experience as a lecturer, Dr Bansal will explore the shifting role of educators, the integration of AI tools in teaching and assessment, and the critical challenges of maintaining academic integrity and fostering independent thinking. The presentation will also examine how legal curricula must evolve to prepare students for a profession deeply influenced by AI-driven change. View the Presentation Slides HERE Dr Karnika Bansal is a Lecturer of Law at the College of Business, Law, and Governance, James Cook University. She holds a PhD in Copyright Law from Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. Before relocating to Australia in 2017, Karnika practiced at the Bar Council of Delhi, India, and contributed to copyright and trademark litigation at a prominent IP law firm. Her expertise lies in private law, with a strong focus on Intellectual Property and Technology Law. Dr Bansal is passionate about transforming legal education through technology-driven teaching strategies, student-centred learning, and curriculum innovation. In 2024, she received JCU’s DVC Education’s Student Experience Award for her commitment to enhancing legal education through tailored content and interactive delivery. Her current work continues to bridge the gap between legal academia and emerging technologies.
