Finishing a law degree is a significant achievement, but it is the first step on a much longer journey. Designed especially for law students and recent graduates, Barrister Thomas Feeney offers an engaging and honest look at the early years of legal practice. Drawing on his experience as a solicitor in both private practice and Legal Aid, a former Supreme Court associate and now a barrister accepting briefs across all areas, Thomas will share practical insights into the realities of life after law school. From debunking common myths to tips on how to prepare for the transition into practice, this session offers valuable guidance for anyone starting their legal career.

About the Presenter

In 2019, Thomas graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons I). In 2020 he was an associate to a Supreme Court Judge. In 2021 he commenced practise as a solicitor, primarily in criminal law. He practised at both a private law firm and later Legal Aid Queensland. Thomas has lectured the Law of Trusts at James Cook University. In 2024 he was called to the bar. He accepts briefs across all practice areas.
