Join us for a special presentation on Youth Justice by Hayley Fox from Legal Aid Queensland. Hayley will provide an in-depth exploration of the legal framework and principles governing youth justice, covering key topics such as the governing legislation, principles of youth justice, the concept of doli incapax and various diversionary and sentencing options available for young offenders. Hayley will discuss the importance of treating children with respect and dignity, ensuring their rights are upheld and promote their physical and mental well-being as well as highlighting the need for special protection for vulnerable children and the importance of diverting them from the justice system whenever possible.

Hayley Fox is a criminal lawyer at Legal Aid Queensland (Cairns office). Hayley was admitted as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2019 and has practised in criminal law since that time. In her work, Hayley provides duty lawyer and ongoing case management and representation services to people charged with criminal offences, in an area spanning Innisfail to the Torres Strait Islands. Hayley is particularly passionate about representing youth, and those from low-socio-economic backgrounds. Hayley is a mentor for the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland and enjoys sharing her experience as a lawyer with those who are studying.
