Legal Events and Networking with Inter Alia, Cairns Student Law Society for Semester Two
Inter Alia had a full schedule of events for Semester Two. We would like to thank all the 2023 Executive and the Inter Alia members for all their hard work to make these events possible and such a success!
Clayton Utz Evening: Navigating Clerkship and Graduate Opportunities
Inter Alia kicked off Semester Two with an enlightening evening featuring Brittney Nielsen, the Graduate Resourcing Consultant at Clayton Utz. On the 8th of August, students gathered to gain insights into the intricacies of applying for clerkships and graduate positions at Clayton Utz. Brittney's informative session not only provided valuable tips for CU opportunities but also equipped attendees with universal insights applicable to any graduate application. The event left students feeling more confident about navigating the competitive world of clerkships and graduate programs.
Paint & Sip Evening: A Creative Welcome Back to Campus
Inter Alia continued its vibrant Semester Two events with a 'Welcome Back to Campus' Paint & Sip evening on August 11th. Students from various cohorts and legal professionals joined in for an evening of creativity and networking. The event, hosted at the on-campus venue the Boat House allowed attendees to craft their masterpieces while enjoying complimentary food and drinks, fostering a sense of community among the diverse participants.
Life at the Bar Event: Insights from Barristers at Cairns City Campus
Sponsored by Trinity Chambers, Inter Alia held the 'Life at the Bar' event on August 30th at the Cairns City campus. Barristers shared valuable insights into advocacy and courtroom experiences, offering students a unique opportunity to learn from real-world experiences in the legal profession. The event facilitated open discussions and allowed students to pose questions about a career in the courtroom.
Mooting Competition with Shaune Williams: A Practical Workshop
Responding to popular demand, Inter Alia, in collaboration with Shaune Williams Barrister-At-Law and JCU Lecturer, conducted a Mooting Workshop and Competition. Held on September 15th and 23rd at the Boathouse, Smithfield Campus, the workshop provided students with a comprehensive understanding of mooting, followed by a competition to apply their newly acquired skills. Shaune Williams, with over 14 years of legal experience, brought practical insights and expertise to the students, contributing to their professional development.
Inter Alia Law Ball: A Night of Glamour and Celebration
The pinnacle of Semester Two's events was the Inter Alia Law Ball, held on September 16th and sponsored by Harding Property Law. A glamorous affair at an elegant venue, the Law Ball brought together students and legal professionals for a night of festivities, networking, and a chance to showcase their formal attire. The annual event served as a fitting conclusion to a semester filled with learning, networking and celebration within the Cairns legal community.
