Student Hardship Fund

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected each of us in different ways, but some of our students are among the most vulnerable to financial hardship, which is influencing their ability to complete their studies successfully.

Contributing to JCU's hardship fund enables us to keep students on track and studying so they can change their life for the better.

We recognise that some of you are facing significant challenges during this time, however if you are in a position to help our students who are facing extraordinary circumstances, please consider making a donation of any size. Your generosity will help ensure our students can continue to pursue their dreams of completing their studies at JCU.

On 20th April 2020 James Cook University marked it's 50th Anniversary, instead of celebrating the event with cake and public events, the whole JCU community is getting used to a new normal of social isolation restrictions during the COVID-19 crisis.

The pandemic has affected each of us in different ways, but some of our students are among the most vulnerable to financial hardship, which is affecting their ability to complete their studies successfully. They’ve lost their jobs, financial support from their families, and those with children have new responsibilities relating to online education. Others still don’t qualify for the government assistance.

In response to our student needs during this crisis, JCU announced a Student Success Support Package to assist students who are in need of support due to COVID-19. While there are various financial, academic and health and wellbeing options in place to assist students as part of that package, one tier of support is reserved for students who find themselves in extraordinary financial circumstances and without another resource to turn to for help.

We recognize that some of you may be facing significant challenges too, however if you are in a position to help our students who are facing extraordinary circumstances, please consider making a donation of any size to help ensure our students can continue to pursue their dreams of completing their studies at JCU.

JCU’s Student Hardship Fund was there in 2019 to assist students after Townsville’s terrible floods and with your help and generosity in 2020 it will help students with verified hardships overcome extreme challenges brought on by COVID-19.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic all gifts received to the fund will be used to support students experiencing extraordinary financial circumstances and without another resource to turn to for help.

100% of your donation goes directly to students.

This is a challenging time for the world and our place in it. At JCU, we know that many are in need of support because of COVID-19 and in response, we have developed a Student Success Support Package. This package has three key features: Financial Support, an Academic Safety Net, and Health and Wellbeing.

JCU is committed to ensuring students can complete their studies on time, while protecting their health and wellbeing.

James Cook University is an Australian registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), which means donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.
