Give to JCU What can I give?

What can I give?

Our donors can choose to make their gifts on a regular basis, as a one-off donation, as a bequest in a will or from private charitable organisations or trusts.

JCU accepts many different types of gifts, including:

  • Cash or cheques;
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT);
  • Shares;
  • Property;
  • Works of art or valuable collections, antiques, jewellery, coins and other items of value;
  • A portion of an estate; and
  • Life insurance policies or annuities.

JCU can accept cash or cheque donations:

  • Online through our secure payment portal for specific causes;
  • By Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Contact us for details;
  • By cheque. Made out to James Cook University - see mailing address; and
  • In cash at our Cashiers office on the Townsville, Bebegu Yumba and Cairns, Nguma-bada campuses.

All other donations should be discussed with our Director of Advancement to work out the best way to accept the gift.

NOTES: The Gift Acceptance Committee makes decisions on the acceptance or refusal of gifts where the University would need to outlay funds, property, realty and other assets. The Gift Acceptance Committee will always take expert advice on gifts intended for a particular discipline area or special purpose.

Gifts are credited independently by the University at fair market value on the day the University receives the gift. The Australian Taxation Office attaches special conditions to gifts of property, realty and others and it is the responsibility of donors to seek the advice of the Australian Taxation Office to determine the value of gifts for their own income tax purposes. Donors are responsible for obtaining the cost of their valuations.
