Information for JCU Cairns Graduates

Graduation Tickets

To comply with COVID venue requirements, all guests and graduates must be issued an event ticket via Ticketlink to gain entry into the venue. In the case where any health issues arise (COVID related) ticket holders will be contacted.

Graduate Tickets

Graduates who have selected that they are attending a JCU Graduation Ceremony via eStudent will automatically be issued a ticket by Ticketlink. You will be emailed your ticket 48 hours prior to your ceremony with your allocated seat (ensure to check your junk inbox). On entry graduates will be directed to the JCU Ceremony Registration Desk to receive their graduation card. Graduates will be seated in reserved seating in the order they will walk across the stage. If you have specific seating requirements, please advise exams@jcu.edu.au at your earliest convenience.

Guest Tickets

Graduates are responsible for booking their guest tickets via Ticketlink and distributing tickets to guests to gain entry into the venue (maximum of 4 guests per graduate). Guest tickets are complimentary and seating is allocated.

Academic Dress & Gown Hire

Collection Details

JCU graduates are required to wear JCU approved academic dress. Academic dress can be hired from Silver Rose.

It is strongly recommended that all graduates collect their academic dress prior to their ceremony. Early collection is from Monday 12 April from Cairns Performing Arts Centre. Collection times are listed below.

Those who are unable to collect their academic dress on Monday 12 April can collect it on the day (see table below). However, please ensure you arrive at the start of the allocated collection time for your ceremony to avoid being late for graduate registration and photography.

Return Details

All hired items must be returned to the academic dress return areas located in the outside foyer of the Cairns Performing Arts Centre.


Photography

Silver Rose Photography will be providing the photographic services at graduation including portrait and family photography sessions. Only 4 guests and the graduate can feature in family photos due to COVID requirements. Photography times are located below for each ceremony. Please ensure you arrive at the start of the ceremonies allocated photography time to avoid missing out.

Graduate Registration

To be able to register you must be wearing your full academic dress. Graduates will be asked to quote their graduation registration number which was emailed to them a week prior to the ceremony at the JCU Ceremony Registration Desk in order to receive their graduation card. You will need your graduation card to present before you cross the stage, so please keep this card with you at all times.

Please see graduate registration times below. Late graduates may not be permitted to enter or participate in the ceremony.

Cultural Sashing Ceremony

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates who have identified their heritage on Student One will be presented with a JCU Cultural Sash at informal ceremonies prior to each graduation. An invitation with details will be emailed to recipients prior to the ceremony date.

Important Information

When to arrive

It is recommended that graduates arrive an hour and a half prior to the ceremony commencement time to allow time for parking, gown collection and photography prior to registration.

Parking

Parking around the Cairns Performing Arts Centre at certain times can be limited so please factor in extra time for parking or arrange to arrive by Taxi or other rideshare options. The Cairns Performing Arts Centre car park will be open for all ceremonies. Council street parking will also be available around the venue. A drop off bay is available at the venue off Florence Street.

Dress Code

Graduates

It is recommend that graduates wear clothing that is neat, smart and comfortable. You’ll need shoes that are suitable for stairs, carpet and slippery surfaces. Thongs, shorts, t-shirts, jeans and ripped clothing are not considered appropriate.

Guests

Guests are to dress smart casual.

On Stage

To ensure the continued well being of all our graduates and staff, we kindly request that students doff in place of a handshake with our Chancellor.

COVID-19 Advice

Personal Belongings

There are no facilities available to leave any personal items (handbags/mobiles etc.). All your personal belongings must be left with guests, or you may consider clothing with a pocket under your gown.

The Ceremony

It is anticipated the ceremony will run for approximately two hours. All attendees must leave the venue as soon as the ceremony is completed to comply with CPAC's COVID plan.
