Information for academic staff and members of the JCU Council  (This information does not aply to graduating students)

If you wish to participate in an academic procession for the following ceremonies please complete and submit the registration form.

March 2018 Ceremonies

Townsville

Venue: Townsville Entertainment Centre

7 March 2018 commencing @ 3.00pm

  • College of Business, Law & Governance

8 March 2018 commencing @ 10.30am

  • College of Arts, Society and Education

8 March 2018 Commencing @ 3.00pm

  • College of Science & Engineering
  • College of Public Health, Medical & Veterinary Sciences

Cairns

Venue: Hall 2, Cairns Convention Centre (see plan below)

13 March 2018 commencing @ 3.00pm

Academic dress

Staff who are JCU graduates may request the loan of a JCU gown to wear at a ceremony (PhD, Masters and Bachelor).  Graduates of other institutions may borrow a black gown and mortar board.

Please note: Due to the large number of PhD graduates attending the Townsville March ceremonies it may not be possible to loan PhD gowns to staff. First preference will be given to graduating students.

To request the use of a loan gown please complete the gown loan section on the Registration Form.

Collection of loan gowns - Staff

PhD (ONLY)

Please collect your loan gown up to 2 hours prior to the commencement of each ceremony from:

  • Townsville: The Magnetic Room (see floor plan below)
  • Cairns: Foyer which is located beyond Door 27 (see floor plan below)

All other gowns - Bachelor, Masters, Honours and Black Gowns for graduates of other institutions.

Townsville Campus - (Building 014 room 008)

  • Thursday 1 March Noon to 6pm
  • Saturday 3 March 10am - 2pm

Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre (Palm Room - 1 on plan)

  • Wednesday 8 March from 11am (day of the ceremony)
  • Thursday 9 march from 8.00am (day of the ceremony)

Cairns Campus - (Building A004 room 026)

  • Thursday 8 March Noon to 6pm

Cairns Convention Centre (see plan)

  • Tuesday 13 March from 11am (day of the ceremony)

Cultural Sash Presentations

Prior to each graduation ceremony a JCU cultural sash presentation ceremony will be held for graduating indigenous students.

Venues

Townsville: The Magnetic Room.

Cairns: The foyer which is located beyond Door 27 (see plan below)

Each sashing ceremony will commence thirty minutes before the commencement of each graduation ceremony.

Staff are encouraged to attend the cultural sash presentation ceremonies and are asked to be gowned prior to the commencement of the ceremony.

Academic Procession

Academic Procession assembly points:

  • Townsville – Magnetic Room
  • Cairns – Foyer which is located beyond Door 27 (see plan below)
  • Please be robed no later than 30 minutes prior to the commencement of each ceremony.
  • The academic procession will commence assembling approximately fifteen minutes prior to the commencement of the ceremony.
  • Each ceremony will commence promptly at the scheduled times.

Order of procession

The procession enters the auditorium in the following order:

  • Ceremony Marshal
  • Academic Staff
  • JCU Council Members
  • Members of the Official Party

National Anthem

Protocol requires that you take off your trencher/bonnet during the playing of the National Anthem.

After ceremony refreshments

A short informal reception for members of the Academic Procession, VIP guests, PhD graduates and their families will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Magnetic Room (Townsville) and the Foyer behind Door 27 (Cairns).
