Law Seminar Series - Criminal Law
Thursday 9 October, 11.00am – 12.00pm Join Rowan King, founder of RK Law and leading advocate in domestic and family violence (DFV), for a powerful and timely seminar on the major legal reforms set to reshape Queensland’s approach to DFV in 2025, including the criminalisation of coercive control. With extensive experience in both prosecution and defence, Rowan offers real-world insight into how these changes will affect the legal system, frontline advocacy, and support service, particularly in vulnerable and regional communities. Whether you're working in the DFV space, studying law, or passionate about social justice, this is a must-attend session. Be part of the conversation and stay ahead of the changes. Rowan King is a Queensland-based lawyer and founder of RK Law, with offices in Caloundra and Cairns. Admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia, he holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. After starting his career with BE Law and QIFVLS and later working as a prosecutor, Rowan established RK Law in 2017, which has grown to handle high-profile criminal and family law cases, including matters involving Bruce Lehrmann and Christine Anu. A James Cook University graduate, Rowan credits his time there as the foundation for his purpose-driven legal career. He is also a community advocate, volunteering with ICARE4U in Papua New Guinea, serving as a Justice of the Peace, and supporting local organisations such as the Cairns Taipans and Caloundra Swimming Club. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his daughter, motorbike rides, good food, and great coffee.
