Belonging at JCU
A Community Built on Our Shared Values
At JCU, belonging isn’t just something you find, it’s something we create together. Our community is shaped by students and staff who show up with curiosity, kindness and a commitment to making university a place where everyone can thrive. The four JCU values guide how we learn, connect, and support one another every day.
Excellence
Excellence at JCU isn’t about perfection, it’s about growth. It’s about giving things a go, supporting each other to do our best and celebrating the small wins as much as the big ones. We foster a community where everyone feels encouraged to stretch their abilities, ask questions and pursue their goals in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.
Authenticity
We value realness. Being yourself is not only welcome here, it’s essential. Authenticity helps us build trust, show empathy, and create relationships that feel genuine. Together, we build spaces where students and staff can share ideas, express who they are and feel respected and seen.
Integrity
Integrity is about doing the right thing, especially when no one is watching. In our community, it shows up through fairness, accountability, and respect. We strive to create learning environments that feel safe and supportive, where everyone is treated with dignity and we look out for one another.
Respect
Respect is the foundation of belonging. It means listening deeply, valuing diverse experiences, and recognising that everyone brings something important to the table. At JCU, we honour each other’s cultures, perspectives, identities, and journeys. Respect helps us build a campus culture where all feel welcome, included and empowered.
Creating a Connected JCU Community
Belonging grows when we all contribute to a culture of care. Whether it’s offering a friendly hello on campus, checking in on a classmate, being mindful of the spaces we share, or engaging with the broader community, each action strengthens the sense of connection that makes JCU special.
Together, as students, staff and the wider community, we’re building a university where kindness is normal, support is expected and everyone has a place.
Our values of authenticity, excellence, integrity, and respect guide how we teach, support, and connect with you. We measure our success through yours.
