Work Health and Safety Contacts Health and Safety Representatives

Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs)

JCU is committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for all students, staff and stakeholders.

As part of that commitment, the University acknowledges that workers are entitled to elect a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) to represent the health and safety interests of their work group.

The role of HSR is to ensure the effective flow of important communication related to work health and safety issues and concerns at JCU.

The power and functions of HSRs for a work group are to:

  • Represent individuals in matters relating to health and safety
  • Monitor the measures taken by Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) or their representative in compliance with the Act in relation to individuals in the representative group
  • Investigate complaints from members of the work group relating to health and/or safety, and
  • Inquire into anything that appears to be a risk to the health and/or safety of individuals in the work group arising from the conduct of the business or undertaking.

Please refer to the JCU Work Health and Safety Policy and the WHS Consultation and Participation Procedure for further information.
