VetheRBlocks is a project to use an AR mobile app combined with toy bricks (such as Lego) to teach people how the Internet works. It involves computer vision (ML/AI) and a knowledge of computer networking to create a fun gamified way of learning about modern communication systems.
A proof-of-concept was created from a CEE/ADQS Learning and Teaching Innovation Grant, and the project is now moving towards a second phase of further development, including a study involving student participants to measure the tool’s effectiveness in immersive learning.
The first paper on this work was presented at IEEE TENCON in Singapore: S. Kerrison and J. Jusak, "Teaching the Internet with AR and Toy Bricks," TENCON 2024 - 2024 IEEE Region 10 Conference (TENCON), Singapore, Singapore, 2024, pp. 1065-1068, doi: 10.1109/TENCON61640.2024.10902721

Project Team and Collaborators:
Drs Steve Kerrison and Jusak Jusak from JCU Singapore are the project’s initial members, with colleagues from multiple Australian JCU campuses interested in participating in the second phase
