  • Easy to use, manage and support: Simple workflows and an intuitive interface.

  • Automatic speech to text: Every video has auto-transcriptions awaiting approval before publishing.

  • Add notes, bookmarks and discussions: These can all be done by students and educators within the video player.

  • Video assessment workflow: Create a secure space for students to submit their videos for assessment.

  • Video quizzes: Create interactive media with results sent to Grade Centre.

Q. When can I start using Panopto?
Panopto is now available in LearnJCU and can be accessed by the Books and Tools menu. Instructions to download the Desktop Recorder and further guides can be found at the bottom of this page.

Q. What training is available?
Please refer to the Training Webinars' tab below for links to webinar recordings and also visit the guides at the bottom of this page.

Q. Can I still create recordings with Mediasite?
No. New desktop recordings should be made with Panopto. Refer to the guides at the bottom of this page to find out how.

Q. Will I be able to upload video files created outside of Panopto?
Yes, you can create a video in Panopto and select the option to upload a video.

Q. What will happen to my pre-existing Mediasite recordings? Will my Mediasite videos be transferred to Panopto?
Mediasite recordings will be copied to Panopto. We do this, you do not need to do it. Automated lecture recordings will be copied over to a Panopto subject folder and other recordings will be copied over to a Panopto personal folder. You can continue to link to videos on Mediasite until the end of the year. If you have video links in your LearnJCU subjects, we recommend you start relinking to Panopto recordings as soon as you can.

Q. Can I copy Mediasite videos over to Panopto myself?
You could, but we recommend you don't. Instead, wait for us to do this for you. We have finished the first pass (you will soon see Mediasite videos recorded before June 14, 2021 in your Panopto library) and we will complete another pass towards the end of September 2021 (subject to change).

Q. Why are my Collaborate recordings not appearing in my Panopto Library?
Collaborate recordings are usually accessed via Collaborate, Collaborate recordings in Collaborate will not be copied into Panopto. If you are wanting a Collaborate recording in your Panopto Subject Video Library, you will need to download that MP4 (of the Collaborate recording) and upload it into your Panopto Subject Video Library

Q. Should I continue using Collaborate for virtual classrooms?
Yes. Collaborate is still the program used to deliver virtual classrooms. Whereas, Panopto is the program used for capturing, storing, and sharing learning and teaching videos. Similar to how Mediasite was used.

Q. Can students use Panopto to record video for their assessments?
Yes, visit the Video Assessment Guide to find out how we can assist you in activating this feature in your subject site.

Q. When I check the Panopto subject video library there are videos missing?
When a new LearnJCU subject site is created for the following year and Panopto video links are copied in from the content of the previous subject, these will not appear in that subject's video library.  You can copy these videos from the previous library to your current library, or leave it as is and students can rely on accessing the linked video via the subject site content link, rather than via the subject video library.

Q. How can I replace the Mediasite videos in my subject content with Panopto recordings?
We have instructions on how to replace (re-link) your existing Mediasite videos with the equivalent Panopto videos.

Since Teaching Period 2, 2021, all automated lecture recordings are auto-published. This frees up the lecturer's time and energy from having to publish automated lecture recordings and also ensures recordings are available to students in a timely and consistent manner.
