The Shaw Collection of Australian Art and Culture consists of books and a small selection of periodicals that focus on Australian art and culture as selected by long-term patron and donor, Miss Edna L. Shaw of Melbourne. The collection contains many rare and significant monographs, including limited editions and large folio size items.
The collection is a long-standing endowment by Miss Shaw in honour of her late father, John Vernon Shaw. There are over 5,500 works in this collection, which Miss Shaw donated over the course of more than a decade. After a long, interesting and productive life, Miss Edna Shaw passed away on the 31st of December, 2019. She will be greatly missed.
The Shaw Collection is located in the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library in Townsville. You can make an appointment to view the works in the Special Collections Reading Room.
