The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) has recently accredited James Cook University’s (JCU) Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy program for providing the highest standard of education to medical students.

JCU’s Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy is one out of the four programs offered across Australasia to receive RACS qualification approval.

The course is designed to provide medical graduates wishing to pursue a career in surgery with the ability to train and up-skill their knowledge of the human anatomy.

Matthew Rikard-Bell graduated from JCU’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2016 and is expected to complete the Graduate Diploma this year.

Rikard-Bell said “The graduate diploma is a hands on, interactive learning anatomy experience.

The online delivery of lectures coupled with the intensive dissection blocks provides flexible learning and is an ideal course for individuals working full-time.

This course is invaluable for Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE) preparation”

The course structure offers flexible study options to students living in both metropolitan and rural and remote areas of Queensland.

Dr Jessica Sandilands graduated from JCU’s MBBS in 2014 and is currently completing the Graduate Diploma alongside her surgical residency at The Townsville Hospital.

Sandilands said “The Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy has provided me with excellent opportunities for anatomical dissection and application of clinical anatomy using a very flexible mode of learning with great practical experience.”

JCU’s College of Medicine and Dentistry (CMD) now offers three RACS accredited programs, two short course workshops in Cairns and the Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy.

The RACS accreditation of the Graduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy reflects JCU’s commitment to deliver the best practice of educational standards to medical students.

The course will commence on 29 January 2018, and enrollments are open up until this date, however places are limited. For more information about the course, visit the course information page.
