Roles and Responsibilities within the GRS

Dean, Graduate Research

  • Takes overall responsibility for developing and administering policy associated with research training at JCU to ensure that appropriate strategies are in place for the recruitment of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates, and that the University’s postgraduate research training programs have a high profile internally and externally.

  • Chairs the Research Education Sub-Committee.

  • Ensures that appropriate levels of pastoral care are provided to HDR candidates.

  • Provides advice on HDR matters.

  • Ensures that appropriate levels of training are provided to academic staff and/or advisors of HDR candidates.

  • Works with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research on broad strategic policy and resource issues.

Research Education Sub-Committee

The Research Education Sub-Committee, or RESC, is a group appointed to monitor the supervision of research higher degree candidates at JCU. The RESC is the central University committee which oversees the workings of research higher degrees, formulates policy relating to the provision of supervision of the degrees and ratifies the various decision points during research higher degree candidature.
