Important Information for International HDR Scholarship Applicants
Please note that HDR scholarships do not cover Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) or relocation expenses. International applicants are required to arrange and pay for OSHC before applying for a student visa.
As a guide, the cost of OSHC in 2025 is:
- $4,521 for a single PhD candidate (one-off upfront payment)
- $23,652 if accompanied by a partner
- $45,889 if accompanied by a partner and family
Please be aware that OSHC costs increase annually, and updated rates will apply to new offers from 2026.
International applicants are also encouraged to consider general living costs and other expenses associated with studying in Australia. The Prepare to Arrive website provides helpful information and tools to estimate the cost of living, including healthcare and schooling costs for children.
When you apply, you will automatically be considered for all scholarships you are eligible for. Applications are assessed and ranked in line with the Scholarship Scoring Procedure.
