About Advising at JCU

JCU is committed to offering a rich research education environment, and so continues to work to provide professional development resources to support advisors. We also seek to celebrate advisor success through an annual Advisor or the year program. JCU’s Research Education Subcommittee meets regularly to review policy and procedure and to ensure that these frameworks scaffold the research candidate and are transparent and efficient. JCU’s work is informed by a range of peak bodies and higher education groups that inform our work.Regularly HDR Advisor updates are circulated by email and housed here for your reference to keep you informed of the work underway to continue to strengthen our research education environment.

James Cook University recognises and celebrates research excellence via number of awards and programs annually. These include Advisor of the Year  Awards, Dean's Award for Excellence and the Celebrating Research program.

The Research Education Sub-Committee (RESC) is a sub-committees of the University’s Research Committee.

The RESC provides advice to the Research Committee on matters related to the administration, supervision and examination of candidates who are enrolled in research higher degrees and coursework doctorates, as well as advice pertaining to the professional and skills development of early career researchers (ECRs).

The RESC makes recommendations and refers matters of substance and policy to the Research Committee for consideration.
