RDIM Frequently Asked Questions I need to apply for ethics approval - am I still required to complete a RDMP?

I need to apply for ethics approval - am I still required to complete a RDMP?

Yes. A RDMP is a separate process to the ethics application/approval process and is required for all research projects.

You MUST:

  • complete and discuss your RDMP with advisors prior to Confirmation of Candidature, if you are a HDR candidate
  • attach a PDF of your RDMP to JCU ethics applications
This is required by the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2023 and applies to  undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate  coursework students, as well as HDR candidates and  researchers.

You should:

  • revisit and refine  the RDMP as the project progresses
  • attach a PDF to grant applications, other ethics applications or protocols and/or complete by commencement e.g., projects funded by the Australian Research Council

The RDMP includes  prompts  and extensive help text around broad ethical considerations relevant to your project and how they will be managed e.g., the  review process, informed consent and information sheets, clauses in collaboration agreements, and any retention requirements that apply for sensitive data. It also asks you to consider (if applicable)  measures that will be put in place to protect the privacy of individuals, safeguard confidential information and manage sensitive data e.g., de-identification techniques, access controls and secure storage, data transfer and encryption measures.

Working on your RDMP will assist you in completing the more detailed questions in the ethics application.
