RATEP at JCU

Education at JCU has a proud history of providing teacher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our graduates have gone on to make a difference to the education of all Australians through their work as classroom teachers, advisory teachers, school leaders and principals, education administrators, university academics, community and family members and leaders. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to consider a career as a teacher and make a difference in the lives of future generations.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples who enrol in the RATEP mode of delivery for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) can expect:

  • To study the same subjects with the same lecturers as on-campus students, through interactive multimedia course materials and online tutorials;
  • Personalised support from Education Queensland Teacher Coordinators at their respective study centre, and from JCU Indigenous Education and Research Centre’s Student Support Advisors;
  • A degree program that leads to teacher registration that enables you to teach in Queensland, Australia and beyond
  • A program of study that respects your experiences and knowledge as an Indigenous Australian and values the contribution that Indigenous teachers make to the education of all Australians, and particularly of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
