Going Rural North Placement Bursary
Going Rural North is a rural placement bursary for nursing, midwifery, allied health, and dentistry students to assist with travel and accommodation expenses for primary health care placements within the North Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) region. This initiative is supported by the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN).
In summary, the bursary is available to:
- Undergraduate or Postgraduate Nursing, Midwifery, Allied health, and Dentistry students
- Students who are Australian citizens or have permanent residency
- assist Students with placement travel and accommodation expenses
- Student who attend University-approved rural and remote placements within the North Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) region (including but not limited to Aboriginal Medical Services and Aboriginal Community controlled Health Services, non-government services, not-for profit organisations, community settings e.g. Education Facilities).
- Students who attend placement that range from 2 weeks to 10 weeks in duration

2025 WIL Australia Student Scholarships
A small number of scholarships of $1,500 provide financial support for students undertaking a WIL placement in Australia as part of their 2025/2026 university studies.
2025 Applications: Opening 17 February 2025
Criteria for applicants
2025 WIL Australia Student Scholarships are open to students who:
- Are from institutions with WIL Australia Full Institutional Membership.
- Are based in an RRMA1-RRMA2 location in an RRMA3-RA5 location or in an RRMA6-RRMA7 location
- You must travel more than 60 kms into another RRMA location to be eligible for a WIL Scholarship. For example – you are moving from an RRMA1-RRMA2 location to an RRMA3-RA5 location for placement and travelled more than 60 kms.
- Students can be domestic or international.
- Genuine relocation is required.
- 3 weeks duration minimum and occur between 1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026
- Placement must be full time.
JCU Work Integrated Learning (WIL)/Placement Scholarship
Students enrolled in a confirmed placement of a minimum of 1 week or 36 hours in length,
arranged within the 2025 academic year will be eligible for a base amount of $500;
plus an additional $350 per week, when required to relocate from semester residential address to undertake the placement.
The maximum amount of scholarship per placement will be $4,000.

If relocating to a remote or rural location and travelling by air, a $500
(in addition to $4,000 scholarship maximum) Air Travel Cost Supplement allowance
may be available upon production of suitable evidence.

NAFEA Equity Rural Placement Scholarship – Applications Close 1 August 2025
The Equity Rural Placement Scholarship Program is an initiative to provide financial assistance to students experiencing financial hardship to undertake placements/work integrated learning activities in rural and remote settings. It also provides financial assistance to students living in rural and remote areas experiencing financial hardship who are required to relocate to metropolitan areas to undertake placements/work integrated learning activities.
Approved applications will be awarded scholarships up to $2000.
Funding is provided to assist students with the out-of-pocket costs incurred as a direct result of the placement. These are costs which are additional to everyday living expenses and are incurred as a direct result of a placement requiring relocation, including:
- Travel costs,
- Accommodation.

NAFEA Indigenous Rural Placement Scholarship – Applications Close 1 August 2025
The Indigenous Rural Placement Scholarship Program is an initiative to provide financial assistance to Indigenous students to undertake placements/work integrated learning activities in rural and remote settings. It encourages Indigenous students to undertake placements on country.
Approved applications will be awarded scholarships up to $2000.
Funding is provided to assist students with the out-of-pocket costs incurred as a direct result of the placement. These are costs which are additional to everyday living expenses and are incurred as a direct result of a placement requiring relocation, including:
- Travel costs,
- Accommodation.
