Thesis Examination FAQ's

  • The thesis examination workflow cannot progress without examiner details.
  • The Primary Advisor needs to complete the Nomination of Examiners form for GRS to send candidate thesis to the Examiners.
  • The thesis examination process will be placed on hold until examiner information has been provided.
  • No. Students receive examiner reports before the oral.
  • Examiner feedback is discussed during the oral examination.
  • Revisions are completed after the oral process if still required.
  • The advisory panel does not participate in the oral examination.
  • Advisors may be invited to attend, but they do not take part in the assessment discussions.
  • The thesis first goes to the Primary Advisor for review.
  • Once approved, GRS manages examiner engagement.
  • Examiners formally have six weeks to review.
  • Extensions are common.
  • Students should allow approximately 8-10 weeks for examiner reports.
  • Students should generally not follow up before the 10-week mark because GRS is usually waiting on examiners.

Staff will access forms through the staff view of the Student Management System/CI Anywhere portal. Tasks requiring your action will appear under My Tasks, and email notifications will include a link to the relevant task.

You will need to request access through ServiceNow. When providing the reason for access, indicate that you require it to process HDR forms as a Primary Advisor or ADRE. Student Management System Access Request form
