NDIS/Queensland Disability Worker Screening Clearance

Before commencing placement, you must obtain an NDIS/Queensland Disability Worker Screening Clearance. Once approved, the clearance is valid for five years.

Existing worker clearance – If you already hold a valid clearance (or a current Queensland Yellow Card), please email a scanned copy of your Worker Screening Card to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au, and we will add the details to InPlace. You must provide your Worker Screening Card details to your placement provider upon request so that they can link you to their organisation for the duration of your placement.

New clearance required – If you do not already hold a valid clearance, you must apply for screening through the Queensland Department of Communities. Please read the application guide before commencing the process.

1. Register for an online account. As with the Blue Card process, you will need your customer reference number (CRN) from the Department of Transport and Main Roads to complete this process. You can find your CRN on your driver licence, proof-of-age card or photo identity card. The photograph on your identity document must have been taken within the past five years and three months.
2. Application type – If you do not already hold a current Blue Card, complete a combined Disability Worker Screening and Blue Card application. For the application type, select I am applying for a Disability Worker Screening Check AND a Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
3. Complete the application – During the online application, enter the following information under Purpose and Role:
   1. Select Volunteer.
   2. Select NDIS Improved Health and Wellbeing.
   3. Under Employer Details, first search for and select James Cook University – Registration/Employer ID 4-433C-1951.
4. Because your clearance will be linked to JCU, we will receive notification of your card details and update InPlace accordingly.
5. Please note that some placement facilities may require you to link your clearance to their organisation for the duration of your placement. Keep your card or confirmation email available in case the organisation requests it.
