Queensland Health Pre-Placement Requirements
All students must complete orientation before commencing a placement within a Queensland Health facility.
You MUST complete/provide evidence of the following before the commencement of your placement:
- Queensland Health iLearn Modules
- Queensland Health Student Deed Poll
- Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist
and any other training and documentation relevant to your discipline or specific placement.
Students are required to complete relevant Core Mandatory Training listed in the Mandatory Training HR G6 Policy for Department of Health Employees as part of the Department of Health - Mandatory training requirements standard through iLearn before commencement, as detailed in the following table:

Select the “Core Mandatory Training” tile

From here, students can select the relevant mandatory training required to complete prior placement. To locate the General Evacuation Instructions (GEI) and First-Response and Evacuation Instructions (FREI) type the relevant acronym into the search bar and click the magnifying glass. Either acronym will return the FREI module to complete.

The Queensland Health Deed Poll is a legal agreement between a student and Queensland Health. Students must complete it before commencing a placement at a Hospital and Health Service facility.
Submit the completed form to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au no earlier than six weeks before your placement commencement date.

- Your signature must be witnessed by a person aged 18 years or older.
- Enter all required signatures and dates, and complete every section.
- The signature date must be current and relevant to the placement period.
Download, complete and sign all eight pages of the Queensland Health Student Deed Poll. Email the completed form to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au. Retain a copy with your Student Orientation Checklist and in your professional placement portfolio or placement resources.

Complete pages 1–3, including the certification and declaration on page 3. Keep a copy for your records and provide the completed checklist to JCU as instructed below.
Refer to the example of a correctly completed Student Orientation Checklist.
Complete every required field. For checks that do not apply to you, enter N/A where the form allows. By completing the checklist, you confirm that you have read and understood the Queensland Health placement requirements.
Legal checks
Record the issue date and expiry date of your National Police Certificate. For the purposes of this checklist, the expiry date is three years after the issue date.
For your Working with Children Check (Blue Card), record the expiry date shown on your card.
Complete the other legal checks only if they are required by legislation, your placement location or JCU. Otherwise, enter N/A where applicable.
Immunisation evidence and infection prevention
Use your JCU Health Record and Immunisation Form or your Australian Government Immunisation History Statement to complete this section.
Record the relevant vaccination dates. If immunity is confirmed by serology, enter the test date in the appropriate field and note this in the comments section, where required.
If respirator fit testing is required for your placement, record the test date, make or brand, model and size for both successfully fitted respirators. The fit test must have been completed within the previous 12 months.
Under Other vaccinations, record your influenza and COVID-19 vaccination details, if applicable.
Online learning and orientation modules
After completing all required iLearn modules, mark each applicable mandatory orientation item on the checklist as complete.
Compliance
Read each statement carefully and tick every box to confirm your understanding and agreement.
Certification and declaration
Complete all required fields, then sign and date the declaration.
Email your completed Student Orientation Checklist and module training certificates to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au so that JCU can record your completion.
Allied Health Students must complete Steps 1 and 2 according to the instructions on the website Clinical placement information for allied health students. When completed you then fill in the Records of Allied Health Student Training as evidence of completion.
Please send the completed Record of Allied Health Student Training form to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au and retain a copy for your placement portfolio.
This course has been designed for Medical Students to introduce Cerner's PowerChart application and ieMR (patient's Integrated electronic medical records). Students will be required to refresh this module annually.
Please access your Queensland Health iLearn account (see the Queensland Health placements tab for information on registering for iLearn if you do not already have an existing account).
Once you log in, use the Search for Courses option at the top of the page, and search for "eHealth ieMR Student Medical Officer Training".
Click on the course to bring up the course details, and then click on Launch Course to start.
Once the module is completed click on End of Course and into the Certificate section to print your ieMR Certificate. Please email this certificate to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au.
This training introduces nursing and midwifery students to Cerner PowerChart and Queensland Health’s integrated electronic medical record (ieMR). Complete the relevant module annually from the start of your program.
Sign in to your Queensland Health iLearn account. If you do not have an account, follow the registration instructions under the Queensland Health Placements tab.
After signing in, select Search for Courses, search for eHealth ieMR Nursing Student Training, open the course and select Launch Course.
Nursing students
Midwifery students
Student Midwife ieMR WBT module
Use the on-screen Table of Contents to complete: Introduction; Getting Started; Orientation & Navigation; Basic Admission; Obs & Sign Off; Documentation and Sign off Discharge; and Appendix 3: Specimen Collection. Follow the interactive instructions in each section.
When finished, open End of Course, enter your name and generate your certificate. Print or save it from the Certificate section. If it is not available there, check your iLearn Certificates page. See the certificate example.

After completing the module and video, email a copy of your relevant ieMR certificate to the Professional Experience Placement Unit and keep the original with your placement documents.
All JCU students attending placement at Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service are required to submit additional pre-placement requirements.

Please retain copies of all PPR documents for your professional portfolio. You must take all your pre-placement documents with you as you need to demonstrate compliance on the first day of placement. This includes Police Check, Blue Card, JCU Health and Immunisation Form (including serology reports you may have), TB Risk Assessment form, CPR Certificate, and all iLearn certificates. All documents must be current.

Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service Placement Requirements
Important: These requirements apply only to students allocated a placement with Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS).
If you are allocated a TCHHS placement, you will receive an email explaining how to complete the additional requirements.
Placements in Weipa or Cooktown:
Influenza vaccination – You must have a current influenza vaccination. Email evidence to healthplacements@jcu.edu.au.
NDIS worker screening – Obtain an NDIS/Queensland Disability Worker Screening Clearance. Give your Worker Screening Card details to the placement provider so they can link you to their organisation for the duration of your placement.
Nursing students will also be required to complete the TCHHS Student Orientation Self-Directed Learning Package. You will receive instructions via email for completing this package.
Attach all documents, including your influenza vaccination evidence and NDIS Worker screening card, to one email and send it to TCHHS-Nursing-SCP@health.qld.gov.au. Copy the Professional Experience Placement Unit into the email.
The Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) require all students doing a placement at any of the THHS facilities, including regional hospitals and community health centres to complete Fire & Evacuation training.
When undertaking a placement at the Townsville University Hospital, please complete training for the Main Hospital Building (Ground Level, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3) and Townsville Rehabilitation Unit (TRU). This certification is only valid for 12 months. If completing a placement at any of the other THHS facilities, please complete the training applicable to that facility.

Townsville University Hospital’s Infection Control team will begin administering vaccinations for Influenza and COVID19 from early April 2025.
This initiative supports a safe and healthy environment for both students and patients during clinical placements and provides an excellent opportunity for students to stay up to date with their immunisations.
Students who wish to take advantage of this service can contact the team directly at THHS.ClinicalPlacements@health.qld.gov.au to arrange their vaccination.
