- Research
Whether you're looking to strengthen your professional practice, expand your understanding of Indigenous perspectives, or pursue advanced research, the Indigenous Education and Research Centre offers postgraduate study opportunities that connect learning, research and real-world impact.
Through coursework and research pathways, students engage with Indigenous knowledges, contemporary issues and community priorities while developing the critical thinking, research and leadership capabilities needed to navigate an increasingly complex world.
Learning at the Cultural Interface
Students engage with Indigenous and Western knowledge traditions, developing the confidence to work across multiple ways of knowing, being and doing.
Through critical reflection, discussion and research, you'll explore complex issues, challenge assumptions and build the skills needed to contribute meaningfully within your profession, community or research field.
This approach is grounded in the Cultural Interface and informs both our coursework and research pathways.
Choose Your Pathway
We offer postgraduate study options for professionals, community members, lifelong learners and aspiring researchers. Whether your goal is career development, personal enrichment or advanced research, there is a pathway to support your aspirations.
Explore the Graduate Certificate of Indigenous Studies or continue your academic journey through a Master of Philosophy (Indigenous) or Doctor of Philosophy (Indigenous).
Connected Through Research
At the IERC, teaching and research are closely connected. Students learn within an environment shaped by Indigenous-led research, community partnerships and contemporary scholarship.
Whether you're completing a postgraduate qualification or pursuing a higher degree by research, you'll engage with ideas that are influencing policy, education, community development and Indigenous futures.
Looking to broaden your studies?
Students from a wide range of undergraduate disciplines can choose Indigenous Studies subjects to complement their existing studies and gain insight into Indigenous histories, cultures, knowledges and contemporary issues.
Whether you're studying education, health, business, environmental science, law or another field, Indigenous Studies can strengthen your ability to work across diverse communities and contexts.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can also access dedicated academic, pastoral and personal support through the Indigenous Education and Research Centre.
Have a question? Want to find out more?
We can help you explore study options, understand entry requirements, connect with the right academic staff and identify the pathway that best aligns with your interests and goals.
Whether you're considering postgraduate study, exploring Indigenous Studies subjects, or seeking information about support services, we're here to help.
