Rabo Tertiary Pathways Scholarship

Our aim is to bring together your talent and Rabobank’s resources to ‘growing a better world together’ by offering scholarships, internships and group research work. Students will focus on areas and topics that are critical to the ongoing success of agriculture not only in Australia, but also globally.

This scholarship is subject to the provisions of the James Cook University Coursework Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Policy

The Rabo Tertiary Pathways Scholarship is open for you to apply if you:

  • Are commencing Honours in 2023 or commencing/continuing a Master of Philosophy in 2023; and
  • Are enrolled full time (min 9 credit points); and
  • Research theme in the area of agriculture; agtech; or business/economics/finance with a passion for agriculture; and
  • Are prepared to undertake an internship program with RaboBank in Townsville or Cairns; and
  • Are prepared to present research findings to RaboBank at the end of the year.

The value of the scholarship is $15,000 paid in two equal instalments up to six weeks after census date of study period 1 and study period 2. As well as an internship program including mentoring with the potential for employment at the end of studies and assistance with your research project.

Applications must be submitted on the official application form no later than the date set by the Selection Committee for the year in which the award is to be made. Applicants must submit with the official form, where appropriate:

  • A copy of your resume; and
  • A cover letter outlining:
    1. Areas of research interest/proposed project.
    2. Why agriculture is important to you and the community.
    3. Why you would like to pursue a career in agriculture.
    3. Why you are the right person for this program.
  • Shortlisted applicants will need to participate in an interview assessment at a RaboBank branch nearest them.

Applications submitted without the relevant documentation will not be considered.
The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquires as to the applicant's good character and suitability to receive the scholarship, which includes authorization for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant's academic record and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.

Your application is checked for completeness and eligibility, and you will receive an email confirmation it has been received. After the closing date it will be individually assessed and put forward to a selection committee who will rank your application against others who have applied. Applicants may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

The Selection Criteria are:

  1. Character of the recipient and their level of interest in agriculture; and
  2. Connection the research project has to RaboBank projects/values/strategy; and
  3. Basis of interview.

Selection Process

The award of the scholarship will be made in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, which shall comprise:

  • RaboBank Representatives.

The Selection committee will be responsible for shortlisting and/or interviewing of candidates.

The Selection Committee will determine all matters relating to the selection of the grant awardee.

Ongoing Eligibility

  • The recipient must be enrolled full time.
  • The recipient must participate in RaboBank internship program.
  • The recipient must maintain a course GPA of 4.0 or above.

Conditions of the Scholarship

  • If the recipient defers their study, the recipient will no longer be eligible for the award.
  • If the holder of the award takes an official leave of absence the award will be terminated.
  • If the holder of the award does not meet the continuing eligibility, the recipient is required to submit a statement of reasons to be reviewed by the Selection Committee for consideration of scholarship continuation. The Selection Committee may decide not to continue the scholarship based on their review. Funder needs to advise how much longer they will fund the student if this occurs.

Administration of the Scholarship

The scholarship shall be administered by the scholarships office, on behalf of the Selection Committee.

Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.
