Summary of Project
Zika virus (ZIKV) is a burgeoning health problem and a compelling new concern in the Americas. Many millions of people have recently been infected, after initial outbreaks in the Pacific in 2007 and 2013. ZIKV infections can lead to neurological and auto-immune complications and affect unborn babies (microcephaly). There is no vaccine to prevent ZIKV and no approved antiviral available to treat or prevent ZIKV infections, meaning that new therapeutics for ZIKV are urgently required. This project aims at laying the groundwork for the development of new antivirals to prevent and treat ZIKV infection.
